NSW CHS Swimming

Sunday 15 Apr

Cronulla High School had 13 students competing in a variety of individual events and 11 relay teams who represented their school at the NSW CHS Swimming Championships that took place at Sydney Olympic Aquatic Centre. It was great to see some of the parents there lending their support and it definitely paid off with amazing results from our students. Below are some highlights.

Congratulations Heidi Fricker of Year 9 and Max Fricker of Year 7. Both Heidi and Max represented Cronulla High School at the NSW CHS Diving Champions. Heidi won gold in the 15 years girls springboard while Max won gold in the 13 years boys springboard. In the NSW CHS Diving knockout competition each diver is only allowed one dive to determine the winner. In this cut throat competition Heidi Fricker won silver while her brother Max won gold. Great result by our two elite divers.

After two days of tough diving competition Cronulla High School has come away with three gold and two silver individual medals in events thanks to Heidi Fricker of Year 9 and her brother Max of Year 7. On Day 1 Heidi won gold in the 15 years Girls Springboard and a silver medal in the NSW CHS Diving knockout. Max won gold in the 13 years Boys Springboard and another gold medal in the NSW CHS Diving knockout.

On Day 2 both Heidi and Max competed in the Open Platform 12-17 years event where they placed fifth and fourth respectively. Considering they were competing against older divers this was a great effort. As both Heidi and Max had won a gold medal they were invited to compete in the Champion of Champions dive off where they were diving against all the other gold medallists. Max won a silver medal despite being the second youngest swimmer while Heidi placed fourth overall.

A wonderful achievement by our both Heidi and Max who have also qualified for NSW All Schools Diving next month.

For the first time ever Cronulla High School has won the 12 a side relay event. This is a a blue ribbon event as it shows the depth of quality swimmers in the school. The team is made up of an equal number of male and female swimmers aged from 12 to 17 years and over. The team won by an amazing 9 seconds and were only 0.8 seconds of setting a new record. Great team effort and well deserved.

The 16 year old boys won a bronze medal in the invitational handicapped timed relay. After giving nearly the whole field a headstart the boys kept their composure and worked their way into third position. Well done boys. Furthermore Jordyn White placed 3rd in the 50 Freestyle 15 Girls Finals, Charlotte Cash received a silver medal for the 13 years Girls 100m butterfly where she was beaten by 0.01 seconds! and the 12 years girls 4 x 50 metre freestyle relay team came third and received their bronze medal.

Fantastic achievement by our Cronulla High School students.
